I'm a 43 year old office worker who's about to start serious strength training. I noticed earlier in the thread that you were a fan of higher rep ranges for older guys. Would you make specific changes to the program for older beginners or just stick to the base program using weights I can hit 10+ reps with on that last set?

Thanks

Andy

I wouldn't call you an old guy just yet Andy.

I'd shoot for reps in the 10 rep territory to begin with, and see how you adapt as you go. I have no reason to believe that you couldn't be working in much lower ranges after you have a few weeks under your belt.

Thanks Johnny. I'll stop with the excuses and get stuck in then.

A

Bench 2x5, 1x5+
Curls 2x10-12
Pendlay Rows 2x6-8
Squat 2x5,1x5+
Abs 2x10

B

Press 2x5,1x5+
Chins 2x6-8
Dips 2x6-8
Dlift 1x5+
Calf Raises 1x20

Is it too much? too little? Unbalanced? I'm sorry if this routine is an insult to someone but really I'm a beginner and I'm trying to understand and get better.

I'd ditch the rows and dips, but the rest looks good.
