Labourer Lifts

So, the old log is dead. Long live the new.

I want a fresh start, and a fresh mindset. Hence 'Labourer Lifts'.

Deadlift 102.5kg - 11 or 12
Press 32.5kg - 5 5 15
Chins - 13 9

Lost count on the deadlift reps, and I also feel I could have got more but my grip failed me. I'd like to try pulling with wrist wraps or chalk on my hands. I reckon I could smash a few more out.

Press deffo needs more weight but it's good to get some blood flowing around my joints for a bit. Get on the 'blood pump'!

13 on the chins is decent. Can't be that fat if I'm still in double digits.

On a non-workout note, nutrition:

This is my weakest training element, and this is why I fail to make progress towards either fat loss or muscle gain.

I've been reading through the nutrition thread, and the one thing that stands out is that 'protein is king'. I need to get more of it.

I eat about 400g or chicken in my lunches which is like 120g. I reckon I get at least 50g protein in my dinners so I'm aiming for another 130g in the day. I feel like the easiest method maybe protein shakes so I'll look into this. Probably starting at beginning next year when I get my pay rise and don't have xmas presents to buy.

Do you use mixed grip on deadlifts? Chalk will definitely help and it's very very cheap. I'd wait before getting straps right now.

Hey, no I use double overhand.

I used to go mixed but I find that alongside my job, which involves lots of spade and shovel work, that I was getting too 'lopsided'. I find the double overhand helps keep things a bit more even for my back.

Just a personal preference at the moment.

Cheers will give chalk a look.

You could try mixed grip the opposite way you hold a shovel, it might even you out a bit.

I use liquid chalk for my heavy sets, but never straps. Straps are a last resort IMO, and only for big singles or doubles, certainly not while you're doing high reps like you currently are.

Hmm cool ok cheers. Just gave liquid chalk a look and yeah its affordable.

I might try doing my final deadlift sets with work gloves on and see how that goes. Theyre quite thin but have a rubber grip so should help somewhat. We'll see.

Cheers fellas!

Right then let's see how benching goes today with a normal width grip.

Sq 107.5kg - 5 5 6
CGBP 66.25kg - 5 5 9
Curl 27.5kg - 11 8

Squats feel heavy as per, but good form focussing on 'straight up, straight down' again. Could have got more than 6 but 6+ is what I aimed for so called it.

Tried normal bench but it wouldnt work out with my setup. Ah well shame back to close grip. Went for 10 but fucker got away.

Curls were curls.

Side note: felt a bit shaky in workout today. Weird. Maybe coffee shakes.... but no elbow pain today!

Dead 107.5kg - 10
Pre 35kg - 5 5 12
Chins - 13 9

Deadlift not bad, grip felt fine but form felt off so quit at 10. Also, work gloves no good as 'chalk'.

Happy with press, wish I could've smashed out a few more though!

Chins were tricky mainly as I began getting cramp in my bloody hamstring! And I have to keep my legs bent as it's a doorway pullup bar. Also very grindy last reps.

Elbow good!

Been ill so missed a session. Still not perfect but going for a morning training session. Which is always weird as I'm not as warmed up or heavy from food etc.

Sq 110kg - 5 5 5
CGBP 67.5kg - 5 5 8
Curls 28.75kg - 11 8

Squat felt heavy as fuck. Feeling shaky. But probs from coffee again. Getting to my previous max weight territory. I feel like if I can just get through the 120kg barrier I'll be flying again. Maybe I need to gain weight to help with this. But then I'll get fat. There is the constant turmoil!

Felt weak going into the benching, maybe due to squatting first but it still helps me to order the workout this way. Work sets actually felt good though. Except for the last set. Only got 8 as my shoulder felt funny fucks sake. I need to remember not to beat myself up still, as I have been ill.

Could have got more than 11 curls but was interrupted.
